I am pleased to announce that on Sunday September 19th from 6:00 AM to about noon the bridge across Easthampton Road/Route 10 will be installed. This is the most important milestone on our quest to link downtown Northampton, the former Northampton State Hospital, and the New Haven and Northampton Canal/Manhan Rail Trail with downtown Easthampton and the Easthampton Manhan Rail Trail.
This (and then the tunnel under the railroad tracks in three years) are the keystones of the rail trail network you have all worked so hard on building.
This will require a six hour closing of the road while they first assemble the bridge (it comes in three sections from Minnesota) and then swing it into place (all without touching the powerlines that will remain live since they feed all of Northampton). The detours will be painful, but the results are worth the price.
