Forget the April Fools Day snow outside – I know it is spring because activity
is warming up along our our community rail-trails!
1) FNTG is seeking nominations for its fourth annual “Trail Neighbor Award”.
The Trail Neighbor Award recognizes individuals or groups for outstanding care
or development of our community’s local trails. This is a wonderful way to
thank someone or a group of people for their efforts in Northampton to support
or improve our growing trail network. If you have someone in mind, please email
me their name and contact information along with a statement of what they’ve
done. We plan to announce this year’s winner at our Annual Meeting on April
25th. Send your nominations to me at jriseman AT mac.com by Friday, April 15th.
2) Learn more about new developments in the works on our trail network at our
evening lecture. On Monday, April 25th at 7 pm: Wayne Feiden (Director of the
Office of Planning and Development) will speak about the future of trails in
Northampton and surrounding communities. This will take place at the
Northampton Friends Meetinghouse (43 Center Street), and all are welcome.
3) Come one, Come ALL! Saturday, April 30th: Spring Trail City Wide Clean-up –
Contact Paula Sakey (psakey AT comcast.net) or Nick Horton (nicholas_horton AT yahoo.com) for
more volunteer information! This year we hope to collect TWO dump trucks full
of trash this year plus a bunch of recyclables but we need many hands at work.
4) Our spring newsletter is at the printer, and we’re working on revising our
map and brochure (in conjunction with our partners at the Friends of the Manhan
Rail Trail). If you know a business that would be interested in advertising
there’s still time to participate (but we go to press April 15th).
5) Save the date: Wednesday May 18th Northampton Bike Breakfast and Sunday May
22nd noontime two town ribbon cutting event and party on the Big Bridge over
See you on the trails!
